July 7
Woke up to somewhat cloudy skies - but no rain. Just as we started our day Brian's bike was having problems - like the gears didn't work at all!! Luckily we found a bike shop open on Sunday but just before we got there the gears started working!! The mechanic looked at the bike and couldn't find anything wrong and sent us on our way.
For many miles we followed the River Mincio along a beautiful bike path. The water in the other rivers we followed in Italy was usually a dirty brown color - but this water was a beautiful blue/green color and very clear. This was water that was overflow from Lake Garda. Along the path we stopped in the small town of Borghetto. A beautiful town built right over the river.
We rode into Peschiera del Garda at he base of the lake and had a look around. Really nice!
From there we rode up to Lazise which is one of the most popular vacation spots on the lake.
We took Brian's bike to another bike shop and called our host for the evening to tell him our plans. Turns our our host is a bike mechanic so he brought a spare wheel (just in case) and met us at the bike shop. But it turned out that the freewheel was dirty and rusty and just needed to be cleaned. From there we rode to our host's house and had a nice night with him and his wife. She made homemade lasagna and a bunch of other things. We ate until we were stuffed!
Overall, it could have been a tough day of bike trouble but it turned out just fine and we were excited to make it to northern Italy.

Real authentic homemade Italian lasagna, yummy! Glad you're finding a few warm showers hosts!
