What a long day flying to Naples.  Airport transfers, not sleeping well in the planes, changing time zones - all made for a hectic time when we landed at Naples airport.

We got the bike boxes rather quickly and set to work putting them together.  The sun was setting fast so we were really rushing.  Once they were together and all the bags were packed we hit the road in the dark with our lights on.  Google took us down back alleys and dirt roads which were sometime blocked and necessitated turning around and finding another way.  We arrived at our B&B at 10pm completely spent.

We showered and went out for a pizza (when in Naples...).  It was surprising how many people with children were out on the streets at 10:30pm!!  Belly's full we hit the sack and had a great night's sleep.

June 15

We had a typical Italian breakfast of a cornetto (essentially a croissant) and coffee and hit the road heading for Salerno and the Amalfi Coast.  It was a beautiful day for riding.  We rode a bit more than 47 miles and hit so many hills - but none of the hills were terrible.  But it was still a lot of work and I'm still sitting here feeling completely parched.  The Amalfi Coast is stunning and the Amalfi Coast road is just remarkable, beautiful, crazy, perilous, and something everyone should do at least once!!

Early in the day we road through a hazelnut orchard.

Our first view of the Amalfi Coast as we entered Salerno.  Beautiful.

We stopped for lemon Italian Ice from this nice guy.  He explained that he's been making lemon ice for over 50 years!!

We stopped in Salerno to see this remaining section of aqueduct built in the early 800's!!!  It is remarkable that it is still standing - and that the city has left it alone and built all around it.

Lemons everywhere.  This was at our B&B.

Bougainvillea flowers also are growing all over - on people's houses, restaurants, and along the roadside.
